The Forsyte Saga: A glimpse at the opening line & marginalia

I am always on the lookout for brilliant lines in works of literature. And I always pay attention to opening lines. Today on Totally Booked at Madame Vie (link in bio)
Forsyte Saga. (Volume One) by Galsworthy.
Galsworthy manages to define the state of society, the rise of the privileged, the blandness of their ‘trees’, the decline of the family in the opening lines, while nudging the reader into the flow of the plot. Yup. It’s noteworthy. As for the Forsyte Saga?
Well, it’s: historical period social drama meets messy, juicy, and scandalous soap opera meets a literary classic.
Literary Classics in today’s era of the looming reality of mass illiteracy.
It’s sad that so many people have stopped reading and would rather scroll through junk. Whatever.
